Japan: Bird Flu Kills Rare Eagle (New York Times)

The H5N1 strain of avian flu has killed a rare species of eagle in Sagara, on the southern main island of Kyushu, the Environment Ministry said. The bird, a female mountain hawk eagle listed as endangered in Japan, was found sick on Jan. 4 and died shortly after.
